Population

The city population is about 800 000 inhabitans . The population of the Sulaimany Governorate , which  included nine administrative provinces , is about 1 800 000 inhabitans.

Sulaimany is predominantly a Kurdish city, Sunni Muslims, but also there is minority of Christians with own church.

The city is the center of the Kurdish nationalists.
