PM al-Maliki sends medical team to Halabja
Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki ordered to send a medical team to Halabja Town, Sulaimani Province to inspect tens of wounded due to the chemical bombardment in 1988 by the former regime.
In a press statement to Asharq Alawsat newspaper, the head of the society of defending the rights of chemical weapons victims Loqman Abdul Qadir Mohammed said “PM al-Maliki responded to our society's request and promised to send a medical team in his meeting with the delegation of Halabja Town in May 2009.”
“The medical team includes doctors in several fields and will arrive in Halabja next week. The team will assign the medical cases that need to be treated outside Iraq, which will be on the budget of the Iraqi government”, Mohammed added.
He mentioned that the medical team will not be accompanied by Iraqi officials, except a coordinator with the concerned sides in Kurdistan region and Halabja Town.
Bearing in mind, Iraqi PM al-Maliki met with a delegation from Halabja Town on May 31st, 2009 and promised to treat all the wounded of the chemical bombardment in March 1988.
